Casinos in Mozambique

November 12th, 2009 at 3:22

The constant shortage in the numbers of, Mozambique’s casinos is in a sense somewhat baffling, in one way or another.

In past years, the region was a place where plenty of South Africans would check out to be away from the astonishingly restricting rules on casino gambling (and, it has to be said, mixing with other races) that they had at home. As a result, you could bank on a aura of an advancing industry to accommodate that tourist market.

However, maybe it isn’t much of a bombshell. The state is certainly the most pauperized in the world, having gone through a horrific civil war (followed by catastrophic floods) from which it is still, very slowly, coming around. This can make a spot a lot less of a vacation focal point, despite the fact that there is presently a thriving ambiance along some of the region’s beautiful beaches.

It is at the same time confirmed that regionally to a certain degree, Mozambique’s casinos have had to cross with others in the recently liberalized South Africa, which includes the exemplary Sun City founded by the Kerzner family corporation.

Here is a list of Casinos in Mozambique:

Maputo: Polana Casino Hotel

There are 78 slot machines and video poker games, five tables of American roulette, four blackjack tables, also a poker table.

Namaacha: Sol Libombos Hotel Casino

There are 40 slot machines, American roulette, and two tables for poker and also punto banco.

It is thought that over time the total tourism sector in Mozambique will grow productively. While the local languages are, of course, African, there is at the same time the portion of Portuguese from the old colonial power and the new and escalating awakening of English, both from South Africa and as part of the world-wide phenomenon. The country is distinctly cheap (obviously, as it is really poor) and as above, has some of the most outstanding beaches on the globe, fronting onto the Indian Ocean. Those are the combination of elements that make tourism authorities drool, and as the country elevates out of its current slump, it is likely that not only will tourism develop, but that the list of casinos in Mozambique will grow longer too.

While the country is skeptical to ever reinstate its image as a destination for partying South Africans, as there are now other picks closer to home for them to derive pleasure in, the advancement of a long distance tourism industry is being set-up. This would be to satisfy Europeans hopeful for winter sun, as a getaway from the bleakness of the Northern Hemisphere winter. Plus, obviously, the greatest prawns (shrimp) worldwide derive from just offshore, in the Mozambique Channel.
