Cambodia Gambling Halls
March 22nd, 2019 at 3:25There is an interesting history to the Cambodia casinos that lie just across the border from nearby Thailand, where gambling den wagering is not permitted. Eight gambling halls are anchored in a relatively tiny location in the municipality of Poipet in Cambodia. This conclave of Cambodia casinos is in an excellent area, a 3 to 4 hour drive from Bangkok and Macao, the 2 largest wagering centers in Asia. Cambodia gambling halls do a huge business with Thai workers and visitors from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with only very few Westerners. The phenomenal capital accrued from the casinos ranges from 7.5 million dollars to more than 12.5 million, and there are a number of limitations requirements for casino ownership. Ownership is required to be mostly Thai; however, funding sources are ambiguous. The borders are ceremoniously open from 0900 to 1700, and although visas are allegedly necessary to pass, there are ways around this, as is true of many border crossings.
The original Cambodia gambling dens opened in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were required to close in 1998, leaving just a single gambling den in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, an anchored boat gambling den, highlights 150 one armed bandits and 60 table games. The Naga gambling hall never closes with 42 tables of mini-punto banco, 4 tables of twenty-one, 10 of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and a single table each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.
The first casino in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in 1999 and the Golden Crown soon followed. There are one hundred and fifty slot machine games and 5 table games at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four slot machines and sixty eight gaming tables at the Holiday Palace. The newer Holiday Palace Casino and Resort contains three hundred slot machine games and 70 table games and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has one hundred and sixty six slots and ninety six table games, including 87 baccarat chemin de fer (the most popular game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Also, there is the Casino Tropicana, with one hundred and thirty five one armed bandits and sixty six of the normal gaming tables, as well as 1 table of Casino Stud Poker. One more of the eight casinos in Poipet, also in a motel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six slot machines and ninety seven games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of a comprehensive resort and hotel complex that contains a number of luxuries aside from the casino, which offers 10,000 sq.ft. of one hundred and thirty slot machines and 88 tables.
